Twenty Eighth Week Of Pregnancy

At 28 weeks pregnant, chances are you will find yourself up in the middle of night. Do something relaxing to have a healthy sleep. You can read a book, or listen to soft music before going to bed. A prenatal photo shoot at this week can be a good idea to cherish your pregnancy forever. From this week onwards, staying alone is a strict no-no.

At 28 weeks, your baby is about 14.5 inches long and weighs 2 to 2.5 pounds. It is now time for your baby to start packing on the pounds for life outside of your womb.

  • This week, your baby’s eyelids are partially open.
  • The tiny eyelids now also have eyelashes.
  • The brain of your baby is in major production phase this week.
  • His or her brain is beginning to develop deep ridges. Also, the amount of tissue is increasing this week.

You are likely to experience following symptoms-

  • Breast growth and leakage
  • Continued weight gain
  • Backaches and leg cramps
  • Heavy vaginal discharge
  • Insomnia
  • Frequent urination
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heartburn, constipation and gas
  • Swelling in limbs
  • Varicose veins
  • Braxton-hicks contraction

As you are getting closer to your due date, you should take extra care of yourself and your baby.

  • Keep a check on your baby’s movements and if you notice that the movements slow down, call your doctor.
  • Due to the expanding skin, your abdomen may become itchy. Contact your doctor immediately, if the itchiness is severe.
  • Avoid wearing high heels and footwear that can cause discomfort and wear comfortable flat shoes.
  • Although the delivery is still about three months away, you can start preparing for that by talking to an expert about exercises which you can do to have an easy labor.
  • Avoid sitting in one position for a long time as this will restrict the blood circulation. Also, avoid sitting with crossed legs.
  • Nutrition is important at this stage. So, continue eating a healthy and balanced diet.

If you have an appointment with your doctor this week, then you can expect him or her to check your weight and blood pressure. Your doctor may look for symptoms of gestational diabetes and anemia. These conditions should be treated immediately to have a safe pregnancy. As you are going closer to your delivery date, you will have more frequent appointments with your doctor.
