So, what’s happening with your baby at week 16? He or she is becoming more active and it is the only main thing that is happening at this week.

  • Your baby is about the size of an avocado.
  • The circulatory and urinary systems of your baby are now functioning at a more advanced stage.
  • The eyes and ears of your baby have settled into their permanent position on his or her head and so, the head appears much more normal.
  • Your baby’s head is also becoming more erect and not angled forward as it was in earlier weeks.
  • Your baby’s legs are developing quickly.

Second trimester is often known as “the honeymoon phase” of pregnancy. This is because, during this trimester, you may notice that you are now sleeping more peacefully and soundly.

At this time your doctor may suggest you to stop sleeping on your back. You should start sleeping on your side now. You can use extra pillows to provide extra comfort to your body while you sleep, rest or watch television.

You may continue to suffer from occasional mood swing. So, do not be surprised.

You may now miss your old clothes as you start wearing more maternity clothes for comfort.

Many women may get little free from the morning sickness phase of their pregnancy. Around this time you may find difficulty in concentrating or become a little forgetful.   • The increase in blood flow throughout your body may lead to brighter skin.
  • The increase in active hormones may lead to oilier or shinier skin these days. You can try oil free cleanser if your face becomes too oily.
  • Constipation and heartburn can become troublesome. Try to eat fiber rich foods and avoid fried, greasy and spicy foods.
  • There is the possibility of occasional nosebleeds or bleeding gums due to additional blood flow in your body which in turn causes rupturing of tiny blood vessels present in your nose. These are usually harmless.
  • You may experience nasal congestion that occurs due to slight swelling of nasal passages when blood supply in the body is increased.
  • You will continue to gain body weight. Focus on healthy diet and eat foods rich in vitamins.
  • During this time there is the possibility of hemorrhoids too.
  • You may find yourself growing frustrated. Talk to your friends who have experienced the same problem in their pregnancy. Or you can directly talk to your doctor.

  • Try to eat fruit or yogurt instead of a candy bar, in case you are craving for sweet foods.
  • If you are craving for salty foods, then try snacking on string cheese.
  • Try to aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Swimming and walking can be the good options. Speak with your doctor first about an exercise routine.
  • If you have started feeling your baby’s movement on a regular basis, then call your doctor immediately in case, you haven’t felt any movement for at least 12 hours.
